Islands ‘need to work together’
Tuesday 31st March 2009, 2:00PM BST.
A SENIOR politician has renewed calls for the Channel Islands to work together to create a common market.
Senator Paul Routier told the Guernsey branch of the Institute of Directors last week that unless the islands combined their resources they would find it more difficult to survive the changes resulting from the current global downturn.
At a macro-economic level the islands would achieve more by collaboration on infrastructure projects, tourism promotion, transport, regulation, education and energy, said the Senator, who is Assistant to the Chief Minister and Assistant Economic Development Minister
Businesses could save costs by working across the islands and using the economies of scale to gain better commercial terms.
