JERSEY athletes Felicity Johnson-Deeley and Danielle Leerson won gold medals running for England in the Schools’ International Cross-Country Championships in Bangor, North Wales, at the weekend.
England took the team honours from Scotland, Wales and Ireland with both girls receiving gold medals for being part of England’s winning team.
Athletics development officer Andrew Winnie said: ‘The girls were first time internationals from Jersey and their results were fantastic.
‘Athletes are always looking to be tested further and they both ran well in a high-class competition.’
Johnson-Deeley, of the Jersey College for Girls, placed fifth in the Intermediate girls’ race and while Leerson, of Le Rocquier School, finished strongly in 16th position out of 32 international starters.
