Naughty politicians told off

Tuesday 31st March 2009, 2:01PM BST.

colour-_ep70455_croppedSTATES Members got a stern lesson in manners on Tuesday – from a group of six-year-olds.

Year 2 pupils from d’Auvergne School stood outside the States Chamber and handed out copies of their ‘Golden Rules’ to the politicians as they arrived for the sitting.

The children wrote a letter to the JEP on Saturday 21 March furiously protesting against this newspaper’s description of States Members’ conduct as like ‘a school playground’ on the front page of the edition on the previous Wednesday.

This morning, as the children waited outside the States Chamber to hand out copies of their rules to the arriving politicians, six-year-old Maisie said the children took time out of class to give their Golden Rules to the people that work at the States.

Did these children know what they were doing or were they mere tools for the political motivations of their teachers?

Photo opportunity for Senator Perchard, shame he didn’t take on board the message, as he was the self confessed perpetrator of the the bad behaviour.

He should show some humility and learning from this experience and resign.

Out of posts 1-5 as at 0930 today only one seems to have spotted the blindingly obvious.

No doubt these incredibly self motivated and autonomous pupils – “six-year-old Maisie said the children took time out of class to give their Golden Rules to the people that work at the States” – will before long be moving to grainville (note the obligatory small G) to study philosophy.

I know only too well how some schools get thin on ideas towards the end of term. Used to be take them to a cinema!

I wonder what farmer Perchard said to the children? Any one of those kids in my opinion would do a better job than him. A very sad state of affairs as far as I am concerned.

One would hope that informed parental consent was obtained in respect of each child.

What would have been the educational value of this expedition? Would the education department approve of this apparect departure from what teachers are paid to do?

What a load. Six-year olds!? Why are these kids not being taught something rather than paraded in a political demo they cannot understand or know anything about?
