Saints’ double blows clinch Beckett Trophy
Wednesday 1st April 2009, 2:59PM BST.
ST PAUL’S A defeated Grouville 5-0 at Springfield last night to win the under-14 Brian Beckett Trophy for the third time.
The Division I runners-up were 4-0 up at the break after twice scoring two goals in quick succession, midway and late in the half. Grouville, the Division II champions, were much improved after the break and conceded just one further goal.
On target for the winners were Jay Giles, James Lopez, Zeljko Martinovic, Jamie Burrows and Harrison Crick.
St Paul’s manager Paul Harzo said: ‘Grouville started well and matched us with our passing before we hit them with two quick goals. We did the same again shortly before the break and that dented their hopes.’
