A game for all ages
Friday 3rd April 2009, 3:00PM BST.
AGE is no barrier in bowls and the proof is in the pudding with 69 years between Jersey’s youngest and oldest players in their team to face Guernsey tomorrow.
Jersey Indoor Bowling Association selectors have seven new caps; with debut man Ken Swanton the eldest at 83 and Le Rocquier School student Ryan Videgrain, whose grandfather Mike is also in the team, the youngest at 14.
Jersey team manager Ty Thomas said: ‘We’ve chosen what we feel is the best team from the players available and, yes, there is a big difference in some of the ages.
‘Personally I’m delighted for Ken, I played against him last night and he is playing well and he is certainly in the team on merit in my opinion.’
