Harvey seeks quick response

MH3_5706aaaWITH a game in hand and a home tie against Jersey tomorrow, fourth-placed Hertford RFC’s ambition is to leapfrog over the Island XV, who have just two games remaining to consolidate a tremendous third place at the end of their first season in London Division I.

Following last week’s abysmal home performance against relegation strugglers Tring, who deservedly beat them 20-28 at the same time as Hertford were beating Sutton and Epsom 57-16 away, Jersey will be pushed extremely hard against a side currently full of confidence.

That fact is not lost on Hertford’s Ist XV manager Andy Costin. ‘With Jersey losing at home to Tring we now have a mathematical chance of finishing third if we can overcome a 50-odd points difference and beat Jersey (tomorrow) at home,’ he said.

Jersey head coach Ben Harvey commented: ‘After the game last weekend I had to remind the team why we’ve become a successful team, a team which has never looked out of place in a league we’ve never played in before.’

I thought the team did well last week against a team playing for their lives. Jersey are now not really playing for anything as they can’t get promoted. Frankly the jrfc coach needs a few reminders about the heart of the club, it’s not just results, but the whole community of the team and it’s spirit. If truth be told, the lads don’t play for him , they play for each other and their friends/supporters.
