Here we go again – another UK ‘import’
Friday 3rd April 2009, 2:59PM BST.
From Ronnie Delanoë.
RE the appointment of a head teacher for La Moye School – here it goes again – the powers-that-be in that field select a UK applicant for the position.
A few years back a UK applicant won the top position for Les Quennevais School and what happened there? She left after about two years with a fat cheque, laughing all the way to the bank.
Also I recall the Fort Regent appointment fiasco some years back. Both these positions, along with many others, should have been awarded to locals who would have certainly been adequately qualified, but no, bring over from the UK. The same happens when selecting architects, and so-called consultants, etc.
What is it with the Jersey ‘so-called’ politicians? Is it a case of the ‘big I am’? Jersey certainly must be looked upon as an Island of rich and easy pickings. And as soon as the Deputies get selected they side with each other, making sure not to step on each other’s toes.
In my view and that of many other Islanders, Mr de Luca should have been selected.
However, c’est la vie.
And now I read about the man at the head of the waterfront project -another ‘import’ and getting huge bucks – so enough said.

I agree with you entirely Mr Delanoe, whilst this sort of discrimination against local people goes on there is little incentive for them to strive to reach the top in their professions.
However, I have to disagree on the point of lumping together all deputies – please ask them what they think of this sad state of affairs and I believe you will be surprised how many of them agree with you – they are just outnumbered when it comes to doing anything about it and also unfortunately, the civil servants are allowed to make most of these decisions.
Bear this in mind at the next elections and question the candidates accordingly.

Discrimination against local people? Pot, Kettle and black spring to mind. What about discrimating outsiders by forcing them to live in substandard accommodation paying twice as much as everyone else?
