Jersey’s Keith turns the key
Monday 6th April 2009, 3:00PM BST.
JERSEY under-18s retained the Inter-Insular Trophy at Springfield yesterday with man-of-the-match Barry Keith scoring the only goal of hard-fought and competitive game against Guernsey.
Keith latched on to a long cross-field pass from Jersey Wanderers team-mate Jay Reid and, second-favourite to get the ball, he poked it past defender Rob Le Corre before beating Guernsey’s goalkeeper from ten yards.
It was a 52nd minute goal Jersey richly deserved, in front of a crowd of over 400, as they had created the better chances in the opening half.
But with just a goal between the teams Guernsey were never out of it and twice in the next eight minutes Guernsey’s Nigel Hutton was denied by the woodwork.
