Island’s festival of excellence a real sporting highlight

A FOOTBALL festival described as ‘one of Jersey’s best sporting events’ is well under way at FB Fields this week.
In its 35th year, the Jersey Primary Schools Football Festival has attracted 11 visiting teams to compete alongside Jersey’s U11s for the title.
The competition, which has featured players such as Ian Rush, Michael Owen and Theo Walcott as youngsters, is also a chance for the boys to impress some of the country’s top football scouts, with scouts from Liverpool and Watford confirmed as being on the sidelines this week.
Football development officer Brian Oliver, speaking as he watched some of yesterday’s games, described the festival as one of the highlights of Jersey’s sporting calendar. ‘It is one of Jersey’s best sporting events football-wise,’ he said.
