Croquet set-up is praised by world’s leading players

ROB_3350THE Jacksons Croquet Championship of Jersey was one of the highest standards of competition the Island has ever seen, according to local player and Plate winner Gavin Carter.

Timed to act as a warm-up for the World Championships, which start in Florida next month, the competition attracted some of the world’s top players and those who took part praised the high standard of Jersey’s lawns so early in the season.

Scotland’s Keith Aiton won the singles championship after beating Stephen Mulliner 3-1 (+26TP, -25TP, +13TP, 26QP) in the final at Les Quennevais on Sunday, avenging his recent loss at the hands of Mulliner in the final of last month’s Australian Open.

And in the doubles Jersey’s Tony Le Moingan, partnering Aiton, beat Mulliner and Carter in the final +17TP, +26SXP.
