Syvret: It wasn’t me, says AG

Wednesday 8th April 2009, 2:58PM BST.

JGX_0352ATTORNEY General William Bailhache has denied that he instigated the arrest of Senator Stuart Syvret on suspicion of breaching data protection laws.

The Senator was arrested outside his Grouville home on Monday morning and held at police headquarters for some seven hours, much of the time in a cell.

But Mr Bailhache (pictured) says that the arrest has nothing to do with repeated criticism that the Senator has heaped upon him.

He says that the police decided to arrest Senator Syvret over alleged Data Protection Law charges, adding that ‘everyone is equal before the law and Senator Syvret is no different from the rest of us’.

Here we are again, Jersey must get it’s house in order constitutionally, conflicts of interest real or imagined cannot happen when clear and separate roles are defined, this whole buisness of the Bailiff and his brother..is no longer tenable.a separation of powers is essential so you have independent prosecutors and independent judges, the same thing is happening at Planning ,how can you be minister for the environment and Planning and allow some of the monstrosities we are seeing, only if you are batting for both sides, why is our Govt so allergic to the truth….nothing to hide = nothing to fear, so not surprising they are neither trusted or believed…to be healthily honest and open ,one must be, but also be seen to be…………..

Why does the law officers’ department website contain a statement regarding the “postal vote” prosecutions when there is no reference to any other prosecution?

Lets get things straight. Truth is defined, at least in an English Court, as ‘that which you know to the best of your knowledge and belif’. The truth is out there, the lies are often in people’s heads.

Everyone is equal under the law? I recall a politician getting into trouble under the Data Protection Law before, but as far as I recall, he was not arrested.
