Wheway joy for the Saints

Wednesday 8th April 2009, 3:00PM BST.

_EP70607TWO second-half goals by Craig Russell and Craig Leitch earned St Paul’s FC the JFA’s Wheway Cup last night – their second trophy of the season to go alongside the Charity Cup.

And, having lost the Le Riches Cup to Jersey Scottish and then drawing with them on Saturday to effectively concede the Island football championship to Trinity, the win was, according to manager Craig Culkin, just reward for the amount of effort his players have put in this season.

‘And can you pay tribute to the back room staff, especially Martin Cassidy and Ken Addison,’ he said afterwards. ‘They deserve mention because we work very much as a team.’

St Paul’s were the better team at Springfield last night and made enough clear cut chances to double their score although Grouville also played a neat passing game.
