Horse racing at Les Landes
Tuesday 14th April 2009, 2:56PM BST.
THE public turned out in force for a dramatic start to the horse racing season at Les Landes yesterday.
The Race Club’s computerised tote system went up in smoke, which meant bets had to be refunded.
And during the feature race, the SG Hambros handicap, jockey Phil Varley took a nasty looking fall when his saddle slipped as the field raced past the finishing post. He was not seriously hurt but was taken to hospital by ambulance as a precaution.
The race itself resulted in a win for the Joan Le Brocq-trained Wall Street Runner for the second year in succession.
