Les Ormes could halve number of tennis courts

DSC_3884Les Ormes are planning to replace four of their eight indoor tennis courts with three five-a-side football pitches.

It means that the future of big international tennis tournaments in Jersey, such as the Caversham International held in March, could be in jeopardy.

Les Ormes senior leisure services manager Matt Harris said they felt that they could meet the demand for tennis using half the current number of courts, and wanted to add to the facilities by providing three state of the art five-a-side football ptiches.

While he says it is a positive move for Les Ormes, the news will come as a blow for the Channel Islands Lawn Tennis Association which recently hosted the biggest ever international tournament the Island has seen on the Les Ormes courts.
