Racial discrimination warning
Wednesday 15th April 2009, 3:00PM BST.
RACIAL discrimination will be outlawed in Jersey next year – and bosses have been advised to prepare well in advance.
The new legislation will apply to temporary and seasonal workers as well as full-time permanent staff and is likely to be followed at a later date by laws banning discrimination on the grounds of sex, disability and age.
Helen Ruelle, head of employment at Mourant du Feu and Jeune, says the legal framework in Jersey will be ‘transformed’ within the next 12 months or so as measures from the UK are adopted here.
However, this is only a catching up process, given that the Island’s employment laws are on average around 40 years behind.

What’s the betting the “Bean” will still be discriminated against one way and another.

I Agree with Mogit my thoughts exactly.
Not to worry though The Jersey Population have been walked over for years.,
So lets make sure the legal framework work’s both ways for a change.
God what would we do without the UK to follow????

Does that mean the silly restriction in my passport will be lifted?
Yes I do not have any UK parents/grandparents but my mother was Spanish, and Spain is also part of Europe…therefore I am being racially discrimnated against!
Added to this as I travel a lot with work those few words often raise questions at border controls as to why I have been restricted. What have I done? etc!
When the law comes in I will be at the Passport office to ask them to explain this discrimination!

A racially abusive word if ever I heard one. Why is Jersey 40 years behind the civilised world?

Mogit comment 1 – “What’s the betting the “Bean” will still be discriminated against one way and another”
You can be sure of it, they won’t be allowed to wait 12 years for their quallies ( or 20 like I did )and will have to accept them straight away.
They will be forced as children to attend well funded state schools without overcrowded classrooms.
They will have to tolerate having family close by to act as babysitters and generally act as a support network and forever be denied the pleasure of paying £8,000 a year for a nursery place.
Get your violins out the locals are being overruled again.

Immy Grant – well said!!
Robert – no the “silly restriction in your passport” is there because you live in a place that does not want to be a part of anywhere else as it would mean living by the same rules. You pay low taxes because you only contribute the infrastructure (hahaha)and services (even bigger hahaha)of this island, so why should the “silly restriction” be removed.

Well done Jersey States – almost in the 21st Century…

Good comments by Reg and Immy.
About now, one of the locals usually pipes up and says that there’s a ferry leaving in the morning.

thankfully this will mean the end of qualies as it would be wrong to discriminate against people on the grounds of ethnic origin. Phew!

“Beans being discriminated against”? In my professional capacity I will always recruit the most suitably qualified person for the role irrespective of who they are and where they are from.
And if I hear the phrase one more time “why didn’t you employ me, I’m Jersey”, I’ll scream.
You’re not discriminated against, in most cases you’re not qualified or experienced enough to do the job required.

So everybody will get equal rights except for Jersey people who will continue to be denied any rights in Europe. Sorry but this is not fair. If a Jersey born person must have restrictions placed in their passport then so should every resident. Whilst the States continually ignore the problem, many even deny that it exists, then this Law is nothing more than a sham. Jersey people are treated by the establishment as an embarrassment and the likes of the JDA are no better. Most Jersey people are not rich farmers as is put out by the PC brigade as an excuse for inaction and these racial laws applied against native peoples do cause very real problems for many.
Why do we have to pamper to the moans of the Immigrants. If they don’t like Jersey for what it is than they should leave – They came to exploit opportunities in Jersey and are therefore owed nothing. Because of the racial discrimination shown by the European governments against Jersey we are stuck here for good or bad.
This law is nothing more than a PR exercise to convince the outside world that our Government are committed to human right and all the rest of the PC nonsense that goes with it. How can a race discrimination law exclude the native minority? – The European parliament is a racist bully and our own government have not got the backbone to stand up for our rights.
To enforce such racist laws on Jersey people is wrong and should either be lifted or we should impose the same restrictions on our immigrants as thy impose on us.

Benn comment 8 – there’s your boat out response mate, right on cue.
As for imposing the same restrictions on immigrants as are imposed on locals – didn’t I cover this in comment 5? the only restrictions are those related to Europe which you have chosen as they benefit your offshore status. If you don’t like it vote in new leaders and change it.
Final point “To enforce such racist laws on Jersey people is wrong and should either be lifted or we should impose the same restrictions on our immigrants as they impose on us” – er you do!!

Comment 11 has got to be a wind-up.
