A little taste of luxury

DSC_9057A NEW type of Jersey oyster could help the Island’s tourism industry, according to a French shellfish farmer who developed the new breed.

Much smaller than an average oyster, the Noisettes of Jersey will be marketed in Jersey, France and the UK as a high-quality hors d’oeuvre.

It is the work of Royal Bay Oysters, formerly the Royal Bay Oyster Company, which is based in Grouville but run by French shellfish farmers who took over in 2007. They developed the Jersey Noisette in conjunction with Jersey Potteries.

The Noisette was launched at a recent lunch at the Oyster Box attended by the president of Granville Chamber of Commerce, Georges Cornier, and the vice-president of the Conseil General de la Manche, Erick Beaufils.
