New Look for old Woollies site

Saturday 18th April 2009, 3:01PM BST.

DSC_4442IT’S official – budget clothes chain New Look is moving to Jersey.

The retailer, which also has a store in Guernsey, will soon open in the former Woolworths site in King Street.

Earlier this week the famous red letters of the historic Woolworths brand were removed from the front of the store and replaced with the New Look logo.

Peter Robinson, spokesman for New Look, said that a launch date had not been agreed, but posters in the shop window say that the store will open in June.

That won’t last long!! The shop is far too big for a New Look! That’ll go down the pan, think about its size in comparison to Topshop/Topman!

Should have put a River Island there, a thousand times better and more popular than New Look.

…This is the single most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen Jersey do… they said no to Primark because it would not have enough customers in Jersey although everyone I know would have shopped there every time they needed new clothes and popped in every weekend just for a look.

Everyone I’ve mentioned New Look to has frowned and moaned at the fact that it is Primarily womens clothing and that some of their stores don’t even cater for men.

If we are ever to get something like Argos this would be the only location for it… the storage capacity is astounding, There are 3 shop fronts to distribute from and theres even a lane around the back for the larger pickups. as well as that there would be far many new jobs introduced with an argos due to the fact that they have out of house staff aswell eg. drivers etc.

Also Argos is just Woolworths laid out differently. We still need a replacement for woolies whether the money-hungry officials like it or not. I hope new look fails not because of any particular distaste for the company but because I want to see something more useful done with the woolies site.

Half the island wouldn’t wear stuff from new look. They should have split the premises into 3 separate units and got us a new household store and perhaps a large money spinning franchise like ‘game’ or other multimedia outlet.

That’s right Sean bella and steve, in with the ‘clone’ shops and out with the boutiques. St Helier will just be another UK town.

Joker are you going to put peoples wages up then? All good having boutiques but the prices are silly. Not everyone can afford to shop there

good bye Jersey and hello “Anytown UK.

next thing that this lot will be moaning about is the gst New Look will put on top of the vat!

and when the next credit crunch comes along the New Look bosses and accountants will pull out of Jersey without a second thought for the staff (just like woolies did). and it will be up to the locally owned (expensive apparently) shops to find them all work again

Agree with above poster in that Jersey really needs an Argos store. Check out their UK stores and they offer so much at reasonable prices.
Hey thats maybe why they arent allowed to set up in St Helier!
