Horses for courses in the world of politics

Saturday 18th April 2009, 3:00PM BST.

From Malcolm Sinel.
THE behaviour of certain arrogant, intemperate, petulant and offensive politicians, whom the taxpayer is paying to pursue their personal vendettas and who, as Senator Le Marquand observes, are not of the right calibre, makes one long for candidates for political office with better qualities.

So it was in Rome, but Emperor Caligula found an appropriate solution. He caused his horse, Incitatus, to be elected to the Senate and nominated for Consul (Chief Minister). So well did the noble beast fulfil his functions that he remained in office until Caligula’s assassination when funding for his senatorial duties ceased.

We have a number of intelligent, sound, educated and well-mannered horses, who as Senators would, unlike certain incumbents, perform their duties in a dignified and temperate manner, thus enhancing the esteem of our political representatives for sagacity and acumen both within the Island and internationally.

I would be pleased to hear from persons or groups willing to nominate and support their potential candidacy.

    Gross Misconduct

With a few exceptions we have a flock of sheep falling in behind a misguided meerkat running the island. What hope for us!
