School’s first-class first aiders
Monday 20th April 2009, 3:00PM BST.
CHILDREN at Mont Nicolle School will be in safe hands if they ever suffer an injury, because four of their fellow pupils are regional champions in a national first aid competition organised by St John Ambulance.
The team beat off competition from five other Jersey teams and four from Guernsey to take the regional title.
The successful first aiders are Emily Hussey, Brandon Birrell, Libby Ellis-Brecknell and Chloe Jones. They will now take part in the schools national finals in London at the end of June.
Mont Nicolle head teacher Colin Masterman said: ‘We are very proud of their achievement. They have worked hard and we wish them luck at the finals.’
In the competition, each team had to undertake a team scenario which involved treating two young people who had fallen off skateboards. They also had to treat a person who had overdosed on prescription pills.
Jersey judge Lynn Bouchard said: ‘The standard of first aid was high and the young people all showed a high degree of confidence.’
