Wednesday 22nd April 2009, 3:00PM BST.
A PLAY by a Jersey teenager has been performed for a ‘worldwide action day’ in the United States.
Liana Summers Shaw (19) is a second-year creative writing undergraduate student at the University of Gloucester in Cheltenham.
he wrote the play, Behind Closed Doors, for a course assignment, but was then asked by a lecturer whether she would be happy for it to be put forward for production.
As a result, the play was used as part of the Support Women Artists Now Day in Washington on 28 March.
The 11-hour event included film screenings and performances of plays written by women, as well as a play-reading marathon. This included readings of eight short plays, one of which was Behind Closed Doors.
The special day was held for the second time and included 160 events in 11 countries.
Miss Summers Shaw, whose aim is to become an author, attended FCJ, Beaulieu Convent and Hautlieu schools. During her time at Hautlieu she was shortlisted for the Young Man Booker Award in 2007.
She was eventually shortlisted in the final five for the whole of the UK and attended a workshop with well-known writers as part of the selection process.
