THE first two nights of the Deusche Bank Jersey Closed table tennis tournament at the Geoff Reed Centre provided ample evidence of the improvement in the standard of Island play.

Kelsey Le Maistre starred in reaching the finals of both under-18 and under-15 girls singles where she will, in each case, come face to face with No 1 seed Helen Liron.

The semi final of the U18 girls singles provided the match of the tournaments to date, with Le Maistre coming back from 3-0 down to defeat her sister, Jodie, over seven sets in a match of high drama and quality. Neither sister deserved to lose and the play a credit to both girls who have put in many hours of training.

In the under-21 singles final, No.1 seed Josh Band will need to be on top form as he faces the challenge of the impressive Max Tupper, who comfortably made the final.
