Leonis bounce back to clinch victory

LEONIS ABC won three of the last four bouts to clinch a tremendous 6-5 victory over a Mainland Select at the Radisson SAS Waterfron Hotel on Saturday evening.

And it could have been perhaps even more emphatic, with the majority points decision against Leonis light-welterweight Shane Goggin roundly booed by the crowd.

But it was a great effort from the ‘old guard’ with victories from Boyd Munroe, Rubin Legge and ABA quarter-finalist Danny Kennedy turning the tables on a Select that mainly consisted of West Country boxers.

Futher proof of the growing interest in the amateur game in Jersey was provided by Leonis putting in 11 boxers, after an initial seven were forced to withdraw for a variety of reasons.
