sup00671921_croppedAn American who is interested in the German Occupation of the Channel Islands is hoping to find some pen pals in the Island.

Having been in touch with our sister paper in Guernsey and made contacts there, Glen Morris, of Indiana, has e-mailed to see if anyone would be interested in corresponding with him.

‘World War II is my hobby, and I am fascinated by the German Occupation of the Channel Islands during the war,’ said Mr Morris in his e-mail to the JEP.

‘I can only imagine what it was like for the American soldiers who were stationed in England during the war. As I watch my documentaries, I learned what a problem it was to billet them before the invasion of D-Day.

‘What memories they brought back. A World War II veteran in our church who knew I loved the study of WWII sold me his entire collection of souvenirs he collected while he was in Belgium, France and Germany during the war, minus a German Luger that one of his son’s wanted.

‘He even gave me some pictures that were taken as a driver for General Eisenhower and Monty while in France. I will cherish and enjoy these items for the rest of my life.’

Mr Morris is also interested in learning more about the British culture and in swapping information and items of local interest.

‘I send all my pen pals some cultural information from the US like travel brochures, and some do the same from their location,’ he said.

‘I’m excited about learning about Jersey, your history, culture, and hopefully getting some keepsakes,’ he added. So far these have included stamps, postcards, coins as well as travel information.

Mr Morris (57), grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and now lives in Indiana. He has been married to Marsha for 28 years and they have a daughter, Melody.

The family own three cats and a Pomeranian dog. He works as a security officer at a local hospital in Chicago.

Mr Morris can be contacted at glen6490@yahoo. com or by writing to him at 218 North Woodlawn, Griffith, Indiana 46319 USA.
