Brother and sister shine in Swansea
Friday 24th April 2009, 2:59PM BST.
THERE were mixed fortunes for Jersey’s bowlers in Swansea when the WIBC world indoor championships got under way yesterday, but at least there were encouraging wins for the Island’s brother-and-sister duo Jamie and Rachel MacDonald.
Both Jamie and Rachel, representing Jersey in the men’s and women’s singles, started unpromisingly, losing their opening matches to former champions Mark O’Riordan and Julie Forrest respectively.
But they showed character as they bounced back to register wins over Manxman David Thomas and Irish hope Anne McKillop – though they had to endure the tension of a tiebreak before getting home.
When Jamie defeated Thomas, 15-0, 5-6, 2-0, and Rachel edged home, 9-7, 4-6, 2-1, against McKillop, they kept their hopes of places in the knockout semi fial stage very much alive.
