FOR the first time Jersey will host a Gaelic football tournament next weekend as part of the European Gaelic Football League.

Teams from Guernsey, Paris, Rennes, and team made up of players from Vannes, Nantes and Lisses, in France, will compete against Jersey’s only Gaelic football team in the ABN Amro north-west regional tournament at Grainville next Saturday.

A good performance at the competition will stand the teams in good stead for qualifying for the championship knockout stages of the European league, and Jersey particularly will be looking to build on their recent good form.

But they will face stiff competition from the likes of Paris, who were absent from the last tournament in Brest, France, in February – which Jersey won.
