RHYS Perkins and Partners’ Abracadabra took the top prize in the Connex Spring Regatta last weekend, after winning all four races in the top class.

Held on Saturday and Sunday in an overcast St Aubin’s Bay, moderate northerly winds made for favourable conditions for the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club’s mixed regatta, with place prizes awarded to the best boats on both days, and the best boats overall.

Finishing behind Abracadabra in Class 1 after a hard fought contest for second place were Nigel Boxshall’s Toybox and Bob Milner’s X2C which finished in second and third respectively.

In Class 2, the honours went to Vince Smith’s Shasa, while Jeff Speller’s 2Farr proved a convincing winner in the Quarter Ton class after taking three out of the four races. Speller was also the overall winner of Classes 2 and Q combined.

Two International One Designs dominated the Jersey Handicap class with Bruce Harrison’s Aphros winning both races on day one, and David Myatt’s newly acquired Marguerite doing the same on day two.

Mike Harrison’s Jigsaw took three of the four races in the Dayboat class, with the fourth going to Transport Minister Mike Jackson in his Tosher 20, Charity, however it was Malcolm Annan’s Jamesina, which beat Charity to the post to take second overall.
Catamaran

The club’s hobie cat fleet also turned out in force in the sport catamaran class, with Darren Stower’s Cross-eyed Moose winning all but one of the six races.

In dingy class A, Jeux des Iles competitors Laurence and Lydia Carter in Dragonfly won all three races on day one, but had to give way to their father, David Carter, in Boris on day two. Boris won overall with Dragonfly only half a point behind.

Competition was equally fierce in dinghy class B with Harry Moisan in Ooh La La! winning four of the six races to take the overall top spot, while Paul Myatt’s This Way Up was second and Lily Carter’s Funki Fly a close third – with both boats having a win to their credit.
