Vets’ final hurdle
Saturday 25th April 2009, 3:00PM BST.
JERSEY HC Vets will make history this weekend when they play in the final of the English Hockey Association’s Veterans Plate.
No Jersey team has ever made it through to a national final before, and while the team will want to enjoy the moment – they also want to win.
But standing in their way on Sunday at Old Loughtonians, Essex, are Kingston-Upon-Hull, who will also be looking to take the title.
And Kingston have some advantages, according to Jersey captain Paul Masterton. ‘We know that they have two or three really top class players,’ he said. ‘And they also have the advantage of regularly playing on a water-based pitch, like we will be playing on on Sunday, which is very different to the sand based pitches we are used to.’
