New drums for Island Band
Monday 27th April 2009, 2:57PM BST.
The Band of the Island of Jersey were presented with new drums yesterday at a ceremony in the Royal Square.
Marking this occasion, the 11 drummers marched with the band at 11.15 am from the Cenotaph to the Royal Square holding only their drumsticks.
The band lined up in front of the States Building, where one of their patrons, Harry Lapidus, who donated £8,000 for the purchase of the drums, presented them.
Mr Lapidus said that he had been approached by the band’s former president, the late Owen Wiscombe, some time ago for assistance with the provision of new drums.
He said that he was delighted to be able to help because of the band’s commitment to the Island and the importance of maintaining their standards.
