JERSEY junior surfer Matt Chapman beat off stiff competition from some of Britain’s best surfers to take two prestigious titles this weekend at the Billabong British Schools Surfing Championships.
The 15-year-old De La Salle student won both the U16 shortboard championship and the U18 longboard championship at the competition at Woolacombe, Devon, despite competing in difficult conditions.
Over 200 competitors from all over Britain took part in the two day event, and Chapman was the only competitor from Jersey to take part.
It is the first time Chapman has won a national competition, and he now has his sights set on even bigger things. ‘I was really happy with how I did, especially with winning both championships,’ he said.
