Deputy Pryke won 27 votes in the second and final ballot. Deputy Geoff Southern received 16 votes and Senator Perchard, ten.

In the first ballot, Deputy Paul Le Claire dropped out of the running after winning just one vote and St Peter Deputy Collin Egré decided not to continue after winning five votes. Deputy Pryke received 24 votes, Deputy Southern, 12 votes, and Senator Perchard, 11 votes.

Can you beleive the neck of this so and so….? Now Perchard will you just go altogether, a failed Minister, a found out liar who has breached the Ministers code of conduct in so doing,we don’t want another Peter Mandelson situation…sneaking into another job through the back door…just get out.

    Congratulations

Well done Anne Pryke…it’s been long overdue to have someone in charge at health who acts responsibly and with dignity.
Congratulations also to Deputy Southern for coming in a respectable second with 16 votes. He offered members a considered and responsible alternative and in a welcome and statesmanlike gesture, he offered his congratulations and immediate support for the new minister as soon as the results were announced.
Unfortunately, Senator Perchard, who managed only 10 votes, made no equivalent expression of support.

today i was educated by a passerby that deputy pryke has a vast knowledge of the hospital.
i must admit like comment 10 above, i wondered what she did.
i wish her all the best and hope she can get the hospital on a even keel again, and remove anyone from whatever position if needs be.
please talk to the public about the plan.
she would find the public would give her support where needed i would say.

I understand that if Geoff Southern had been elected he was going to take Syvret to court to resolve the accusations he has made on his blog.

It would have been worth seeing Geoff get in just to see this matter go to court and finally put to bed. Then some people may finally realize that Syvret is only intent on damaging Jersey and making a name for himself.

Interesting that Jimmy had less votes 2nd time round.

Surely this goes against regulations – you can’t have someone in charge of health who knows what they’re talking about!

You can’t have a nurse in charge of health – what if she knows what she’s doing?

    An excellent choice!

Someone who behaves with dignity and doesn’t shout about their accomplishments, just gets the job done!

    Well done Deputy Pryke.

I am hopeful that the new health minister will succeed where Mr Perchard has failed miserably what a shame though that such an important position
goes to a mere Deputy when Senators with Island wide mandates are being overlooked

Hope she chooses her deputy ministers carefully.

I’d like to see Roy Le Herissier as one, he’d keep Pollard on his toes.

The previous two incumbents just don’t have what it takes, they’ve succumbed to Health’s grooming so some new blood needed.

A good decision today by the States Assembly (minus 10) for a new Health Minister. Let us hope and pray she can and will be her own person and not led or compromised by anybody. She has a hard task ahead.
I think the vote too was a vote for us, the electorate, who had really made it quite clear that Mr Perchard was not the man they wanted at the helm any more and had scuppered his chances from the outset.
It would be nice to think that we, the people who after all look to our elected members and pay their wages can bring some force to bear when we feel strongly enough about an issue. This is what it is all about after all.
Now there is closure on the affair, let us hope that stability will now come about in the Health Department.

I wonder whether some of the people who voted for Senator Perchard were treating it as an anti-Senator Syvret vote. I’ll be interested to see who voted this way in tonight’s JEP.

P Le Claire achieved one vote and he voted for himself! It should have been 3…

Brings into question the integrity of his proposer and seconder, Simon Crowcroft and not sure who his seconder was. Surely if they agreed to be proposer and seconder they are saying that they believe Le Claire was the best person for the job – why then did they not vote for him?

As someone recently pointed out the following issue on here, can I ask that you PLEASE make some provision for people who were already on the island earning and contributing BEFORE the end of the reciprocal health agreement with the UK to be allowed ‘free’ healthcare until they qualify for their healthcards.

This would only be a small number of people most of whom would probably require no medical care whatsoever. As was also pointed out, if they left before qualifying for a health card they could be asked for the money back. Should their inability to get decent care result in A&E admission then this will most likely cost more than the decent care would have cost in the first place, so helping them is a win-win situation.

Don’t make life any harder for people who contribute to this island than it already is!

It is an absolute disgrace that Jim Perchard put his name forward. This is the sad standing of Jersey politics. Absolutely pathetic and so is the President of the States, as he likes to remind us, the Bailiff for doing nothing.

Keith, brilliant! I have long thought that nurses get a far rounder view of what goes on than doctors do. Whether or not she is good at politics however, is a separate matter entirely. Let’s hope so.

Hopefully an excellent choice, but a long way to go.Start by sorting out the recently lost health agreement with the UK which affects islanders and prospective visitor alike.
