JERSEY’S men’s bowlers compete in the Atlantic Championship in South Africa early next month.

Five players leave, at differing times, this week to represent the Island – and they have an extremely tough act to follow as two years ago the men returned with medals in the singles, pairs and fours from the championships played in Scotland.

Jersey’s men finished an excellent second overall and combined with the women, who are not taking part this time, Jersey placed second overall in the team event behind South Africa but ahead of Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland.

Jersey captain Gus McKinnon said: ‘There is a wealth of experience in our team so I see no reason why we can’t match or better the performances of two years ago in Ayr.
