‘If we work together, change will happen’

JERSEY’S Health Service needs stability, commitment, experience and consistency, according to the new minister in charge.
Deputy Anne Pryke, who was the Chief Minister’s preferred candidate for the top job, won the five-man race with 27 votes in a strongly contested election yesterday.
The Deputy of Trinity, who is a trained nurse, told States Members that more funding would be required to achieve a health service that the Island requires.
And the new minister promised to make sure that all of Professor Andrew Williamson’s recommendations on child protection services would be implemented with the appropriate funding.

Totally agree with you truthseeker. I think Anne Pryke along with Roy Le Herissier would be a formidable team. Just what Health needs.
Together they would make Pollard answerable and accountable for his decisions and instill confidence in both the staff and patients. Pollard is deeply unpopular with his staff so there would be a great deal of support for some strong political leadership.
Let’s hope Anne makes the right decision about her deputies, these will be critical appointments.

Couldn’t agree more that more funding is required as a person suffering from a critical illness I see how stretched the health service is. It only takes someone off sick and they are stretched to breaking point. Problem is no one wants to pay for it, everyone takes the view that they can gamble on not getting seriously ill until it happens to them.
I really hope she gets the funding and support she needs. Too many people are in charge of government departments who have no idea what the jobs involve – a vote for common sense giving this to a qualified nurse.
Good luck in the role Anne and stick to your guns.

sorry to come in again but, there would be no shortage of money to help patients if a very sharp scalpel was taken to the multilayered management structure which recently has multiplied at an alarming rate and grown quicker than a tumour let’s get back to helping patients and quit featherbedding lazy civil servants.
