Bumper weekend for inter-island travel

Saturday 2nd May 2009, 2:58PM BST.

MFH_2055HUNDREDS of sports fans from Jersey and Guernsey will travel between the two islands this weekend for three of the biggest CI sporting events of the year.

But some have been left disappointed that some sports appear to have precedence over others when it comes to accommodating travel arrangements.

Today Jersey hosts the historic Siam Cup clash against Guernsey before the action reverts to Guernsey for the Muratti tomorrow, and then on Monday horses from the UK, Jersey and Guernsey compete at the Guernsey Races while the women’s Muratti is also in Guernsey on the same day.

Every year the bumper sporting weekend leads to increased travel between the islands, and this year is no exception. Boat services have been rescheduled and diverted to cope with the increased demand, special fares have been arranged, and airline services are also busy.

But horse racing enthusiasts are annoyed that Jersey fans cannot do a day trip to Guernsey on Monday by boat.

Follow that flag … spaces are still available to travel to the Cimandis Muratt Vase final in Guernsey tomorrow
