THOUSANDS of visitors flocked to Jersey’s second annual boat show over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The event, which was declared ‘phenomenally successful’ by the organisers, was attended by up to 20,000 visitors at the Harbour, with Islanders enjoying the chance to board a range of boats, including the Type 42 destroyer HMS York.

The Royal Navy vessel (first in picture gallery) had pride of place at the event and was specially brought in for the show, which took place on Saturday, Sunday and yesterday.

HMS York, the last of the Type 42 destroyers to be built for the Royal Navy, has the motto ‘Bon Espoir’ – Good Hope. It was accepted into service in 1985 and visitors to the show were invited to look round following its multi-million-pound refurbishment.

The show not only exhibited boats but also had the mobile Rojo cocktail bar in attendance, as well as craft stalls and information stalls for those interested in buying a boat or simply wishing to browse in the sunshine.
