Atlantic Rim: Jersey bowlers beat Scotland in Johannesburg
Thursday 7th May 2009, 2:59PM BST.
JERSEY’S bowlers were in the spotlight yesterday, when they humbled mighty Scotland in the Atlantic triples championship at the impressive Wanderers club in Johannesburg.
‘It’s one thing to beat Scotland, but when the name of the legendary Willie Wood is on the card, it’s a red letter day,’ said Jersey’s team manager, Gus McKinnon, who, ironically, was born in Scotland.
‘I have to confess it’s difficult for me at times, and I have to concentrate quite hard at it, but I assure you that I want Jersey to win every game they play – and that includes matches against the Scots,’ said McKinnon.
Alan ‘Lofty’ Shaw and John Lowery were in good form, while skip Terry Allen played some pressure bowls to deny the Scots, and their grip on proceedings can be seen from the fact that Wood’s men scored on only six of the 18 ends.
