Taking a big leap for Family Nursing and Home Care
Wednesday 13th May 2009, 3:00PM BST.
FOUR members of Family Nursing and Home Care raised more than £20,000 when they jumped out of a plane last week.
The tandem skydive from 10,000 feet above St Aubin’s Bay had originally been planned to take place last September but was postponed because of technical problems. However, last Wednesday it was finally able to go ahead.
Sponsorship from Islanders and businesses is still being collected and the team are hoping that when they finish it will total in the region of £23,000. All the money raised will go towards funding essential nursing posts.
Taking part in the jump were fund-raising officer Debbie Farley, community staff nurse Julie Robinson, business development officer Sheenagh Roche and committee member Steve Duquemin.
Mrs Farley said that the group first came up with the idea this time last year. ‘We are aiming to raise more than £2 million each year to enable us to continue to provide our many services throughout the community,’ she said. ‘Personally I have always wanted to do a sky dive.
Amazingly, none of us taking part was nervous. It was really good and I want to do it again. Thanks so much to everyone for supporting us and sponsoring us.’
