FIRST Tower Institute hosts event seven in the English Billiards Open Series this weekend.

The Jersey Open has attracted 43 overseas cueists with six-time English amateur champion Martin Goodwill leading the visitors who will be running shoulders with seven Jersey amateurs.

Jersey Billiards and Snooker Association official Guy Heys, a regular on the EBOS circuit and runner-up in the Plate section in Austria recently, said: ‘We’re looking forward to another good tournament and I’m sure the standard of play will again be high.

‘Unfortunately we have not attracted any professional players this year simply because it’s the wrong time of the year for them to be travelling because many teach billiards and snooker around Europe.’

Matches are all day tomorrow with the final session beginning at 17.50. Play recommences on Saturday at 9.45 through to 19.05 and on Sunday play is from 10 am with the 90-minute semi-finals and final commencing at 2.30 and 4.30 pm respectively.
