Poor example on a special day

Thursday 14th May 2009, 2:59PM BST.

From Hugh Gill.
THE event on Saturday in Liberation Square was an extremely important occasion, which recognises the courage of those who endured the Occupation both here and abroad.

What a pity that the cadets, scouts and guides sitting on the stone steps around the compass area were allowed to chatter away during Hamish Marett Crosby’s excellent commentary, distracting those nearby who were trying to listen. The youngsters might have found the story of interest themselves had they listened.

Most remarkably, there were groups of Service personnel in uniform who were also taking no interest in the proceedings, and talking to each other during the main part of the event. They consisted mainly of officers and NCOs.

What an example to set!
