24 concerts in just nine days for trio
Saturday 23rd May 2009, 3:00PM BST.
THREE musicians performed 24 concerts to care homes and special needs centres in Jersey over nine days.
Pianist Angela Thompson and Amore group: soloists Emma Dennis and Steven Goulden, visited the homes to perform music from the 40s in celebration of Liberation Day.
The concerts were organised by UK charity Music in Hospitals, which organises 4,000 concerts each year to hospitals, hospices, care homes, day-care centres and special schools. Jersey Arts in Healthcare Trust has arranged seven concerts to be performed in the Island this year.
Graeme Humphries, Jersey Arts in Healthcare Trust chairman, said: ‘We believe that music and the arts can have an impact on people’s ability to get better.
The people we send the musicians to are cut off from the arts.’ The repertoire of soprano Ms Dennis and tenor Mr Goulden covers Broadway and West End musicals and popular opera to classical songs and ballads.
