A TOTAL of 32 women took part in the third Headway Ladies Tennis Tournament at the Caesarean Tennis Club recently.

They raised about £1,200 for charity Headway and the winner of the competition, Michelle Fielding, won a bottle of champagne. She was the winner for the second year running.

Organiser and Headway finance and administration manager, Judy Ridley, said that it was a great event.

‘It was a brilliant day and we were very lucky with the weather,’ she said. ‘Women in their 20s up to their 80s took part. It is now a regular event and a different way to raising money. All the ladies enjoy their tennis and have a bit of fun.’

The women played tennis from 9 am to 1 pm on 7 May and then stopped for lunch and then they had a raffle ‘I think they were all pretty tired by the end,’ said Mrs Ridley.

‘It was an American tournament. You get drawn with a partner and the winners move up the court and the losers split up so people play with different partners.’
