From Oonagh Goodman, senior fundraising manager,
The Children’s Trust.

I REFER to the comment in the Jersey Evening Post, dated 7 May, regarding national awareness weeks – and whether people really take these seriously any more.

I would to like to advise your readers that National Doughnut Week, which was one of the awareness weeks mentioned, raises approximately £30,000 each year for The Children’s Trust, a national charity which provides specialist care for some of the UK’s most severely disabled children, including children with an acquired brain injury.

With the support of 500 independent bakers across the UK who participate in this fun event, and not forgetting the kind-hearted public who put their hands in their pockets to buy doughnuts, National Doughnut Week has not only helped to raise over £150,000 for The Children’s Trust in the last five years, but has also helped to raise awareness of the specialist services the trust provides.

For any bakers and readers, who would like to find out more about National Doughnut Week, and perhaps take part in 2010, please visit The Children’s Trust’s website for more information: www.thechildrenstrust.org.uk/doughnuts.
