A man whose talent for talent does us proud

From Ron Davey.
IT’S nice to see our iconic show producer, Dick Ray, still has the ability to pick raw talent such as John Barrowman, booked for Fort Regent. It seems this man is capable of anything once he steps on the stage, totally unpredictable.
Seeing Dick in your pages a couple of weeks ago, looking so well, takes me back to the old days when I was maintenance mechanic for Blue Coaches. I was able to do spare-time driving in the evenings and my choice of trips was all the variety shows around the Island.
Most of these were produced by Dick and his beautiful late wife Peg, for the late Harry and Tommy Swanson, at the Watersplash, Swanson’s and the Opera House.
I remember stars starting out like Des O’Connor, Engelbert Humperdinck, Joan Rivers, Ronnie Hilton, Frank Ifield and Dickie Valentine to name just a few and finally, my absolute favourite, the Vaughan and Earl Show.
Dick Ray has done the Island proud, not forgetting his endless time out of the shows working for the Variety Club, the charity which I am sure will have benefited from this dedicated couple on many occasions. I was fortunate to be one of his friends. Carry on taking the pills Dick – you’re doing OK.
