JERSEY’S Jeux Des Iles team have arrived safely in Majorca and will spend today preparing for the start of the Games tomorrow.

The 30 young athletes left Jersey on a specially chartered plane yesterday and spent last night all together in a hotel.

They then spent this morning moving to their respective hotels, with the various teams all booked in to three different hotels for the duration of the Games, before heading out to check on the facilities for their respective sports.

According to team manager, Hugh Raymond, the atmosphere among the team and officials is relaxed and positive.

‘I have got to say the idea of having the chartered plane yesterday was great as everyone was so relaxed last night,’ he said.

‘The weather is great; it is hot, a bit cloudy, but around 24-25 degrees and the forecast is delightful. Today the teams are going to look at their venues and some of them will get some last minute practice in.

‘Everything seems within walking distance here and because we were the first team to arrive we haven’t been bothered by other teams and have got ourselves organised – in the next few hours 12 other teams will all be arriving together.’

The tennis competition begins tomorrow before the opening ceremony in the afternoon. All of the other events then get underway on Friday, concluding on Saturday, before the team return to Jersey on Sunday.
