Searching questions over airport security

From June Beslievre.
THE moment you step inside an airport you lose all your human rights and dignity.
How many suspected terrorists do we have in Jersey? It took three security personnel at Heathrow Airport to stop a Jersey lady from showing her gun in case she frightened fellow travellers – even though it was only a printed image on the front of a book!
Now we have a JEP columnist delayed at Liverpool Airport because her walking stick might be hollow – as most modern ones are. She should have clobbered the idiot who wanted to prevent her taking it on the plane.
Then there’s the senior citizen in Jersey who was asked to remove her scarf. No doubt someone thought she had a bomb around her neck, even though she was only going to Guernsey.
As for the lady who was made to take her bits and pieces out of her plastic bag and put them in a smaller one, because the size didn’t conform to regulations, the mind boggles.
Are we seriously supposed to believe that all the above are legitimate anti-terrorism moves or is it just a smoke screen to discriminate against women. Or perhaps there are men out there who have also come across similar absurdities when going through airport security.
One man I heard of in the UK was told to take his T-shirt off because they didn’t like the logo – again they said it looked like a gun. He didn’t want to travel topless so turned it inside out before being allowed on the plane.
When is it all going to stop? What started out as a terror precaution has now changed to travellers being terrorised by the airlines who can dictate what we wear and what we read, and if, like many elderly people, you’ve only got a modern walking stick, having to fork out for a ‘proper’ one.
What next, not allowing anyone onboard without a box of tissues in case they sneeze?

“How many suspected terrorists do we have in Jersey?”
Do you know ? or are you speaking from ignorance ?
I would prefer to have my security and safety looked after by those who take it seriously and do not use guesswork.

So much for the “pleasures” of flying these days.

PJG do you trust these people to get it right? I don’t. There is always a way around things. This level of overt security is making people think everything is ok and a terrorist outrage won’t occur. It isn’t guarenteed to stop one.

thats why i hate airports nows,it used to be a pleasure to fly,not any more, with the over zealous security and the way people are treated like herds of cattle has put me right off.rather go by boat even though it is expensive and not very reliable at least you are treated like a human being

I work with explosives, and have been stopped twice at Gatwick as I still had the smell on my hands. This was 2 days and 10 days after exposure, I think that’s pretty good going for the security checks as they are now, don’t you ?
“It isn’t guaranteed to stop one”
correct ! But in the meantime I will put my faith in the current methods of security rather than do an ostrich impression as you and the thread originator appear to advocate.
