NEWLY crowned Miss Battle of Flowers 2009, Lucy O’Sullivan, was the only Jersey archer to win a class at the annual three day Open Triple event hosted by the Jersey Archery Society at the weekend.
The 18-year-old Beaulieu student from the Archers of Jersey Club won the Compound Ladies’ class with 238 hits and a total score of 2,258.
The annual event this year featured 43 competitors, including youngsters from the Great British team and several members of the Island Games teams from Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney, as well as UK archers.
The event began with a Portsmouth competition on Saturday, shot indoors at Langford Sports Centre, consisting of 60 arrows at 20 yards.
This was then followed by a single Fita competition at St John’s Recreation Centre on Sunday, where 144 arrows were shot at distances of 90, 70, 50 and 30 metres for the men, 70, 60, 50 and 30m for the ladies, and 50, 40, 30 and 20m for the juniors.
Monday then featured an event in Crabbé woods, where competitors shot uphill and down dale in the Foresters round, shooting at targets set at varying distances between 15 and 63 metres set in among trees and undergrowth.
