Le Chevalier tees up for title defence
Thursday 28th May 2009, 2:59PM BST.
THE HSBC Private Bank 2009 Jersey Amateur Golf Championship tees off tomorrow with the 36-hole qualifying round at the Royal Jersey Golf Club.
Champion Paul Le Chevalier will be attempting to retain the title he won on his home course last year when he defeated the Jersey Junior champion Sam Crenan in the final.
Crenan will be conspicuous by his absence this weekend as he will be away playing for Hampshire juniors in the English Golf Union County qualifying competition at Five Lakes Golf Club.
Le Chevalier will not have it all his own way though as the majority of the Island’s top contenders will be trying to rest the title from him.
Among the favourites must be former champion Gavin O’Neill. The Jerseyman was in fine form representing Hampshire recently in an inter-county win against Dorset.
