Ministers’ plans cut back in States efficiency drive
Thursday 28th May 2009, 2:58PM BST.
MINISTERS’ plans for the next three years are being cut back to keep States spending down, according to Treasury Minister Philip Ozouf.
He says that pressure is being put on all departments to keep their costs down so that urgent vital spending on Social Services, Health, overdue maintenance and the ageing population can be allocated without driving up deficits.
And Senator Ozouf says that because he is determined to honour commitments to not raise taxes, the only way to keep budgets in control is through efficiency savings or smaller revenue-raising tools like charges for States services.
He also says that the Change Programme – in which the States invested a one-off sum to save money on their revenue, or recurring, budgets – could be repeated. He made his comments at a Scrutiny panel hearing.
