A JOB fair could be held in the Island in July to match companies who have vacancies with job-seekers.

Careers Jersey, with the support of the Island’s Skills Board, is exploring the idea of putting on a one-day event this summer at the Town Hall, in response to the increasing number of Islanders looking for work as a result of the economic downturn.

Jersey’s head of careers and work-related learning, Andy Gibbs, said that a decision is expected to be made in the next couple of days about whether it will be feasible to hold this event. He said that around 30 companies have expressed an interest and that if it goes ahead it will be held on a week day between 29 June and 17 July.

‘It came out of conversation with the Skills Board,’ said Mr Gibbs. We were talking about a careers fair and somebody suggested that it would be useful to hold a more targeted kind of event. Our concern is that there are lots of people out there looking for work. We are 90 per cent sure this event is going to go ahead as there is a demand for this.’
