THE States police are carrying out an investigation after an elderly man allegedly directed racist comments toward a young girl and her aunt on Sunday.

The incident is alleged to have happened in Roseville Street at about 11.30 am. Sally Rimmer (36) was with her four-year-old niece, Amelia, when the man passed and allegedly made the comment.

The girl’s mother, Rachel Jallow, who is Miss Rimmer’s sister, was close by and was told what had happened. The two women said that they challenged the 70-year-old about what was said and Mrs Jallow followed him down the street where he entered commercial premises.

Acting Chief Inspector Chris Beechey said: ‘The police take alleged incidents of racism very seriously and would stress that if people have any concerns about someone’s language or conduct, to contact us so it can be investigated.’
