EIGHT D-Day veterans are heading to France this weekend to remember their fallen comrades as part of the 65th anniversary of D-Day.
The Normandy Veterans’ Association head to St Malo today with a 40-strong contingent to take part in parades at Ouistream and Arromanches, where each veteran will be awarded with a special commemorative medal.
They will also visit Bénouville and the Pegasus Bridge memorial as part of their trip. The Constable of St Helier Simon Crowcroft will also join them in Normandy this weekend.
The group will pass the Sword, Juno and Gold beaches en route to Arromanches, where many soldiers landed during D-Day on 6 June 1944. They will then visit the Ranville Cemetery to pay their respects and try and visit the Omaha beach.
The association’s treasurer Harry Fenn, chairman Lionel Norman, president Clive Kemp, Bill Reynolds, Ken Taylor, Fred Newton, Ralph Stead and Charles Woodman are going on the trip, but fellow veterans Denis Knee and Peter Utley are not attending.
